🐱 CatsFrom stray to gas-station star: how a tiny cat won an entire team's heart
A little black cat showed up at a gas station every day – and stayed. Today she wears her own staff shirt and is the team's beloved mascot.
A little cat who simply stayed
It started quite unremarkably. At a Shell gas station in Bayan Lepas, on the Malaysian island of Penang, a little black cat showed up every day – always at roughly the same time. At first she only came to eat. The staff put out water and food for her, and once her little belly was full, she disappeared again among the cars and the road.
This is how it goes for many stray cats around the world. They have no home, no person of their own, and must fend for themselves anew every single day. They look for shade when it's hot, a dry corner when it rains, and above all: something to eat. Whoever feeds them once is often quickly visited again.
That's exactly what happened here. The little cat realised: at this gas station there are friendly people. There's food here, and no one hurts me. And so she came not just once, but again and again. With each visit she grew a little braver. Instead of vanishing right after eating, she lingered. She sat near the entrance, watched the cars come and go, and observed the staff at work.
What no one suspected: these small daily visits would soon turn into a real friendship – and a story that would later move millions of people.
Over time, the staff got to know the little cat better and better. They noticed when she was hungry, where she liked to lie down and how she tilted her head when someone spoke to her. Every day grew a little more familiar. When a car pulled up to the pump, she no longer flinched in fear but sat calmly and watched with curiosity. From a shy animal that would have fled at the slightest sound, she slowly became a little personality with fixed habits. And in exactly these quiet, everyday moments, something grew that money can't buy: real trust between humans and an animal.
