π± CatsFrom the colony into loving arms: mama cat Purrdy and her kittens beat the odds
Mama cat Purrdy raised her four kittens right in the middle of a street colony β with the loudest purr in the world. Then rescue came. A story of courage, loss and so much love.
A mama cat in the middle of the colony
Purrdy is a beautiful tabby β with perhaps the most extraordinary purr you've ever heard. She was part of a cat colony, raising her four kittens the only way she knew how: tough, resourceful, and with every ounce of love a mama cat can give.

When rescuers from the SPCA of Tompkins County arrived as part of a TNR (trap-neuter-return) effort and got eyes on her little family, they could hardly believe it: the kittens were clean, plump and thriving. Against the odds, Purrdy had managed to give her babies the best possible start.

The SPCA called their foster, NYFosterKittens β and it didn't take long for the right person to step up. Before she even opened the carrier, Purrdy made herself known. Β«When they brought the carrier out, I immediately heard her loud purr,Β» she recalls. Β«I wondered if it was especially loud as a stress response, but when I extended my hand, Purrdy immediately rubbed her face against it. That's just her natural purr!Β»
