🗞️ General«If someone had to die, I thought it should be me» – how a six-year-old saved his sister from a dog
When a dog went after his little sister, six-year-old Bridger stepped between them without hesitation. He was bitten in the face several times and needed around 90 stitches – but his words afterwards moved the entire world. Even the Avengers reached out.
Without hesitation, he stepped in
It's a story that leaves you stunned – and deeply moved at the same time. On July 9, 2020, six-year-old Bridger Walker from Cheyenne, Wyoming, was playing with his four-year-old sister Brielle in a friend's backyard. What began as a carefree summer day turned into a nightmare in seconds.

Suddenly an approximately one-year-old German Shepherd mix lunged at the two children. What happened next is hard to put into words: instead of running away, little Bridger, without thinking, placed himself protectively in front of his younger sister. The dog latched onto his cheek.
Yet even in that moment, Bridger thought of Brielle first. «Run!» he shouted to her. When the dog finally let go of him, he ran to his sister, took her hand and led her to a safer part of the yard – only then did he go for help. His own face was already badly injured.
Bridger was bitten several times on the face and head. In a nearly two-hour operation, his wounds had to be closed with around 90 stitches. That he survived and suffered no lasting damage to his eye borders on a miracle.
